Background: Peter and I are co-owners. Since 2000, we have shared the same passion in making Calia Hair a fixture in this north Toronto neighbourhood which we also consider our home. Having a corporate background and working as part time make-up artist, I was able to work side-by-side, helping to make Calia Hair what it is today. We both pride ourselves to the attention of detail and that means providing all of our guests with exceptional service with our talented team of stylist. Some of our clients know, that Calia Hair was named after our two children Luca and Julia. It’s been over 19 years – but there isn’t day that passes that I am not reminded that Chi trova un amico, trova un tesoro - She who finds a friend, finds a treasure – and I did just that when I married Peter. ​ Most defining moment? I love giving back when we can. Fighting cancer is something that has touched our lives personally. When my mother passed from cancer in 2002, we decided helping parents in their time of need was something we wanted to do. We decided to contribute to the Great Lengths program, which treats parents staying at Ronald McDonald House to free cuts and colour. We know from our own experience, that a little bit of pampering goes a long way and it’s an honour to help them feel a little bit better. Having two children of our own, we have been big supporters of the Wigs for Kids, as well as the Princess Margaret Fire Fighter Calendar, North Toronto MOMS Group, MumNet, and more. ​ What’s it like working alongside Peter? I love working with Peter. I often get asked how do you do it? But I don’t understand the question. We mesh perfectly. Besides, la famiglia è tutto – Family is everything. Favourite saying: Today you are you! That is truer than true! There is no one alive who is you-er than you! – Dr. Seuss ​ What’s special about Calia Hair? Recently someone said, “She just loved coming to Calia. She loved her stylist and everyone in the salon is so kind.” For an owner that is the ultimate compliment. At the end of the day, it’s our family helping your family walking out the door looking and feeling like their best selves.
