Background: Since 2000, Calia Hair Design has been a fixture in north Toronto. This has been a dream and passion I have shared with my wife, Luisa. We are co-owners in every sense of the word – that’s why I am reminded everyday that Chi trova un amico, trova un tesoro - He who finds a friend, finds a treasure – and I did just that when I married Luisa. We have two grown children, Luca and Julia, which keeps us very busy – but our extended family also includes our clients and our team of talented stylist. ​ Specialties: Cuts ▪ Balayage ▪ Ombré ▪ Colouring ▪ Men’s Cuts ▪ Women’s Cuts ▪Curly/Textured Hair ​ Where do you find your inspiration? My clients. Every client has their own story and I love being a part of their journey. For me, it starts with a great cut – cutting into the hair, providing movement and texture and revealing a style that is personalized, current and becomes a part of that person. The style can’t wear you. I love finding a way to make my clients look, and feel great. Most defining moment as a stylist/salon owner? I love the ability to share my experience with our team and also creating an environment that is encouraging growth for one another. For our guests, it’s getting to know them, building a strong relationship of trust. We are in this journey together – so I want to learn what is happening in their lives and how I can help them meet the needs of their hair and lifestyle. ​ Favourite styling tip? Creating a great hair cut is the foundation of longevity. When you are given a good foundation, your hair should follow suit. Hair should be natural, beautiful and wearable. ​ Greatest joy? The Calia Hair family loves giving back to the community. In 2002, Luisa’s mom passed away from cancer. We were impacted by this loss, and we decided to contribute to initiatives like the Great Lengths program, which treats parents staying at Ronald McDonald House, to free cuts and colour. We know from our own experience, that a little bit of pampering goes a long way, and it’s an honour to help them feel a little bit better. Having two children of our own, we have been big supporters of the Wigs for Kids, the Princess Margaret Fire Fighter Calendar, North Toronto MOMS Group, MumNet, and more. ​ Favourite saying? I have two.
